Good playing experience but no coaching experience from what i can tell anyway, though the NAHL isn't a bad place to get started either...

Check that, it actually mentions in the NAHL site article that he does have coaching and scouting experience, the coaching must have been in lower juniors.

Great news! Looking forward to it. Still skeptical on the jr. hockey thing, but I'll give them a shot. Anything's better than nothing.

Wow you sure wasted no time switching the board over. I can get more done once the team gets a name, then i'll get everything organized and get rid of alot of old threads, if nothing else the board should load a bit quicker.

Wonder if they'll play any pre season games against Sarnia, because I think that Metal Jackets team played plymouth last year once.

I'm up for the reuse of Border Cats. Loved the jerseys and everything! But I saw somewhere Ice Cats. Then again if you ask hawkman he'll tell you the Icehawks name would be reused.

I'll definatley look forward to having some hockey back. The level of play won't be nearly as good, but the prospects of many of the players will be much better. Plus, it might be nice to see some local kids make the team every now and then. We've had a lot of local players play in this league or at this level - both in the US and in Canada.
As for the name, I prefer a more basic approach. Get rid of the "Ice" this and the "Border" that. How about just naming them something like the Port Huron Hawks or the Blue Water Mariners or something like that? I wouldn't mind seeing the "Flags" name reused, but maybe there's a little bit of overkill there. We've already had the original IHL Flags, the UHL Flags and all of the PHMHA travel teams are the Flags; I guess if we name the junior team the Flags too, all the bases would be covered? Personal choice: Port Huron Hawks or Port Huron Falcons (Maybe the Port Huron Perigrines, like the ones under the bridge?)

I could think of a ton of names, Huron Lightkeepers, Blue Water Blaze...but something original would really be nice for a change...no Flags or Icehawks or anything like that...
I like the name Mariners BTW TigerDan.

I think the level of play might surprise you. Many of these players are honing their skills to earn scholarships for colleges and also work their way up to the pros. Unlike the IHL, which had players either just playing to play and earn a check or finish out their careers, and maybe a player might get a chance to play in the AHL, I think we will be treated to some good intense hockey. I don't know if you will see goon type of hockey, but hard playing none the less.

How about the Port Huron Pirates, even though it was the football teams name.
