Players need to learn how to protect themselves, slamming players heads into the ice isn't exactly necessary. One person dies as a result of years and years of fighting and they completely overreacted. players who agree to fight should know that it's dangerous in any situation but sometimes unexpected things happen that can be extremely tragic, this player did not remove his helmet but it came off during the fight...you can only protect yourself for so long, unexpected things can happen and will happen this particular player didn't get his head slammed into the ice by the player he fought, his helmet came off during the fight and when he fell down (or knocked down) his unprotected head struck the ice with extreme force...this could've easily happened in the past or might occur again in the future, it's nice to see some sort of steps to limit the chances (but not really cause helmets can come off in a fight without a player taking it off)...

There is more danger now for a player to slice his hand in half if he hits the other guy's visor the wrong way. Very dangerous to fight with visors on

Very dangerous to fight with visors on it's dangerous anyway you look at it, pros and cons for both sides...i personally don't want to see fighting disappear from the game but on the other hand, i hope we don't see anymore deaths so there should be some kinda rule so it limits the chances that it would happen again it's sad to see so many ppl say "only one death and they over reacted with this rule", that's like saying life isn't important...it's too bad they never had rules BEFORE or at least modify them so it increases players safety

You can't fight with face masks on because then whats the point. Fighting with helmets on happens but its pretty stupid aswell. You'd have to either ban fighting completely which is stupid or just let boys be boys and let them have their disagreements. Its like should football ban kick offs because a couple players have died before and a few have been paralyzed. It happens unfortunately but its just part of what they do. If they feel in danger then they won't do it.

If the players remove their helmets they get a suspension. So they should fight with helmets on??? Thats like watching football players punch each other. I guess you can get punches in on the mouth but with the visors most of the face is protected.

So instead of screwing around with these dumb rules that make no sense and they are just making so it looks like they are attempting to help they should just let boys be boys like an old fashion neighborhood scrap.

Never heard that rule I've seen guys stay on the ice for awhile without a helmet. Maybe there is a rule but its not enforced. Just seen Zehr on Saturday playing without his for a good minute or 2 until a whistle. Yes actually its a huge difference. A good fight will not keep helmets on no matter what they are going to go flying off. So refs should jump in to break up a good fight just because someone's helmet came off before there was a winner? LAME! They already got the kids and college to play with cage's so it limits fighting and thats fine. But pros should just do what they gotta do. Now OHL isn't pro so thats a whole different debate

I haven't heard of ANY minor or jr. league that has a rule stating a player must leave the ice if he loses his helmet. If it is knocked off during play, he can finish the shift or play until the next whistle. That would be almost as dumb as the removing your helmet for a fight rule. TOTALLY STUPID. What's next?, are they gonna try mandating the throat protectors like in the house leagues??? Cages? C'mon...

Now OHL isn't pro so thats a whole different debate i forget what league it is, it's a rule to go off when your helmet is off...most leagues allow it but some don't. i was just stating that's what is in this rule, the refs are to stop the fight if the helmet goes off...they might let it carry on for a bit but they're suppose to jump in like any other league during fights, some refs let them fight a bit and some jump in when possible or if a player lost their helmet after a hit or whatever, they're suppose to skate off the ice anyway, like i said before...pros and cons with this rule, we can argue it till we're blue in the face- this coming from a fan who enjoys fighting but anything they can do so we don't see any young kids or any players die again
