Just got done listening to stuckey on the radio and he alluded to the fact that Stan tried to make a trade with Dayton but was stopped in the process. I can only assume it was Kinney who again may have stopped what could of been a player who could have helped us. Is Kinney a medling owner who should let the coach do what he is paying him to do? Is Kinney getting to close to the players? What are your thoughts?

I don't really have an answer, but I couldn't help but think last night sitting through that snooze-fest that Drulia's style of play keeps fans away. Drulia hockey = boring hockey. At this level, bringing fans into the building should be the priority. Yes, winning does that to some degree, but we won the game last night and I wasn't really entertained (all hockey games entertain me to some degree, but anyone with at least average intelligence should understand what I mean.) Kinney as an owner should be working to increase the entertainment value of the games played by his hockey team. That doesn't necessarily mean icing a team of goons, but it's pretty obvious that minor league hockey fans expect to see at the very least a heavy hitting hockey game.

i recall hearing rumor and innuendo about something like this with the Dixons and the beacons...
i wasnt involved with the games like i have been this year due to other life issues but anyway it was what i had heard...
it seems like we have gotten farther and farther away from the cup as time goes on...
year one we just missed winning in game 7, last year we got knocked out in the 1st round but we had home ice advantage (i THINK). this year? will we make 2nd seed or be out completely?
i realize that last option is at the extreme ends of the possibilities but is this a ploy to say, we need more money to pay for better players (dont know if thats feasible with a salary cap) so lets raise the ticket prices...
i dont know...

Hitting is entertaining yes, but with our team being plagued with Injuries, do you risk hurting more players this close to playoffs to entertain, or do you focus more on the winning aspect?? We are going to need every player we have that can skate for the post season, thinking that entertaining your crowd with useless hitting than scoring goals is more important makes me question you wanting to make playoffs in a healthy condition. I like seeing the hitting as well, but at this time of year hitting isn't the main focus anymore. Hitting will come with the passion to win and I'm sure we will see it more often.

tonight during the 3rd period there should have been a whole lot more hitting instead of holding their hand out and placing it on the guys shoulder while he skates around us to put a shot on goal...

Hitting frequently equates to effort, which equates to winning. Plus hitting wears down the opposition so things like tonight's 3rd period don't happen.

If you read the very last line of my post, I said just that. I'm referring to those who just come to watch hitting. Wake up to the current times. Hockey isn't all about hitting anymore. It's all about skill and style now with a little hitting on the side now.

But anyways, this thread isn't even about hitting, this was about what the title says, so why is the subject being changed. Stick to the topic or post a new topic.

I'm assuming you're talking to yourself, since you steered it off topic to begin with. Either way, lighten up, not a big deal that the thread veered off into hitting, the lack thereof seemingly a staple of Stan Drulia teams. And I enjoy the skill as much as the hitting, but many casual minor league hockey fans, while enjoying the skill, enjoy physical play even more. I'll be at the games regardless, as will most of the rest of the base fans; the key is bringing in more casual fans and keeping them coming back. That's gotta be what Kinney wants.

You are the one that changed the direction by discussing Drulia's way of coaching and Hitting, then you briefly added what Kinney needs to do to get people in. That in no way has anything to do with what the first post of this thread was about. this thread was about whether or not Kinney is keeping Stan from doing his job, not increasing the entertainment value of the games. This was about a trade that was in the works that was suddenly stopped in mid process.

Since I started this ... maybe I can get us back on track a little bit. First off I've been as hard on Drulia as anyone in here. However, after listening to Stuckey trying to bite his tongue sat. morning on his show I thought this would be a great topic to discuss. First off, let me add that I think Kinney is a great owner and frankly without his patience we wouldn't even think about having a team that draws as poorly as we do. He has brought the experience of going to a hockey game a great experience for kids and their families. For that, I think this whole town should take their hats to the Kinney family. However, after seeing how this team has made very few moves to bolster the quality of this team is very puzzling. Yes, we have brought players in as replacements for the guys on the IR but whose fault has it been to try and build this team up and ultimately win the cup. Rumors have circulated for months that Kinney would not approve certain moves because of their status on this team from years past. It sounds like this may have happened again last week as Drulia again tried to upgrade the team with a trade. It's no secret we DEFINETLY need a upgrade on the defense. It was no more apparent than Saturday's game against Flint. We had a five goal lead and damn near came very close to blowing it. Drulia is the coach and general manager of this team and if he feels a trade is necessary he shouldn't have to look over his shoulder everytime he wants to make a move. Please Kinney let the coach do his job and you do yours. Leave the everyday job of running this team to the man whose most qualified. I'm sure in your daily businsess of overseeing Datapak you have qualifed people who you depend on to help run your business. Allow that to happen with the Icehawks as well.
