Im sure some of you have heard the rumors going around, the AAHL is looking to expand 2 more teams from this league if it were to fold, which is now a very good possibility with Flint likely leaving for the NAHL and Chicago looking shaky again...so it's time to ask the question.

IMO I would support USHL instead. IMO there isnt but maybe 2% talent in that league. But I will go to the games if thats the only alternative we have for hockey.

hell I would still go why the hell not. I dont see Kinney going to that league though so I imagine he'd be gone. I don't see us going to another professional league (CHL, ECHL) but I don't know Kinney has money and money talks and if Kinney really loves Port Huron as much as he claims he does I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see him try to get into one of those leagues. Sounds crazy and impossible but it just might happen.

But on the other hand if Port Huron did have a team in that league, it might kind of be fun. Lots of fighting, cheap tickets. Sure the barn will never be full but it would be kinda fun and rowdy to go to those games.

NO-Too much of a talent drop-off. Preference would be a Northern division of the ECHL or CHL which would mean 4 less vets and a younger brand of hockey but higher level young player. OHL or USHL would be fine but lower isn't for me-.If Kinney could rope in an ECHL team in a north division maybe he could affliate with the Red Wings.

not sure what AAHL hockey is but if its 'lower quality' then probably not...
i am no where near 'pro' level in anything i do but some of the mistakes i see now just plainly piss me off. i dont need more stress and frustration in my life...

Well I didn't think they would have a team when AFR played in 5 arenas, when the Beacons came and then came back, when the Flags came and then came back and when Kinney came so i never say never.

USHL would fit in this town and area better. Then we can have a rival with Muskegon. Plus I like the idea of having about 14 teams in a league

I might attend a few games, nothing else to do in this ghost town. But from a talent stand-point, I don't really want to go any lower. There are nights watching the current team in which 5-hour energy drinks and no-doze all but keep me awake. No hitting, no fights, no emotion. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Here IMO is what needs to happen with the IHL. Because this whole IHL idea is just getting sillier by the second.
They need to scrap the whole IHL idea. Go back and call it the CoHL, dont make a bunch of claims of old school hockey, yadada. Start out with just a couple teams for awhile I'm thinking Port Huron, Dayton, Flint, Evansville, Detroit (fraser), Bloomington or Quad City. Start very small, make sure costs are extremely low. Make sure the owners and coaches in the league go out and find young talent who are coming out of college or high school that maybe aren't seen by higher leagues. Guys that will come out and fight for jobs to earn a paycheck. It might not be the best talent in the world but you will see guys go out there and give it a try everynight. Make sure you have some vets so you have some claim at it being professional. Try to get some NHL clubs to look at the players in the league as the league gets more and more young talent.
Theres no point to compete with the ECHL or CHL it just won't happen. So start it a 6 team independent league with those small venues (besides bloomy or qc) I guarentee you would get some awesome rivalries. The rules would defiantly need to be tinkered to involve more fighting and hitting allowing a bit more gonnery because lets admit thats what puts butts in the seats. . All the refs in this league would need to be fired and a whole new load of them would need to be trained and hired.
Throw away this whole IHL idea, it doesn't have a direction because one would look at it and see that its a league trying to make it big time like the ECHL and CHL. Then some would see its a league trying to give a cost cutting edge for owners like they claim but guess what its not working seeing as how teams are still losing butt loads of money.

Good call DB. I recall when I first started watching the CoHL (Flint Bulldogs) and it was exactly like you described. Good, hard-nosed, in-your-face, physical hockey. This version of the "I" is nowhere close to the old "I", and it's a disgrace to compare the two, so it's time we stopped pretending and call it for what it really is. All the talent from this league has bailed in the past few years to the CHL or ECHL anyway. Not alot of exposure in a 6-7 team league.
