I am throwing a name out to be the next head coach for the Icehawks, Jeff Blum. Jeff has played many years of minor pro hockey and is very well respected among his peers as a person, player, and coach. He promises to bring in LOTS OF TOUGHNESS and I actually believe him. He lives in Port Huron with his wife and 2 children. He has coached at the major junior level and as an assistant under Stan Drulia. Jeff and Stan had a parting of ways, which makes me believe he doesn't think the same way Stan does, which I believe is a good thing. Jeff knows what to do to make hockey entertaing for the Port Huron fans, TOUGHNESS. I promise that you will love the on-ice product if Jeff Blum is given the chance.

Ive been seeing this all over facebook. The thing you guys gotta realize just because he is well respected among his peers doesnt mean he is going to be able to bring in great players right away, it may take him a year or 2 to bring in some guys to make us winners. Kind of like Jarrod Skalde of Bloomington. Though they choked away the playoffs this year they were alot better then his first year.

It's going to be imperative that the coach to be have a lot of contacts for which to sign players. Word is out there now that Port Huron treats their players really well and the ownership takes care of players. THAT IS BIG!... Remember the Kinney's do not have a hockey background when it comes to this. Hopefully the Kinney's take their time and do it right. By all means the coach must be able to handle the GM duties as well. with no interference from the ownership.

Blum was a fan-favorite here in PH as a player, but IMO doens't have nearly enough coaching experience, not to mention GM experience, for the job. I agree with the above, whoever the new coach/GM is will need to have alot of contacts, as well as coaching ability.

I disagree. He ran the Lansing Capitols and did a great job recruiting players. I'm telling you that he will do a great job here in Port Huron. He knows what the people want and expect.

Stan had an adequate amount of coaching experience, and look where it got him. I think Blum would be a good choice here.

Lansing Capitols??? According to hockeydb.com his only coaching experience was with the PH Flags UHL. What league were the Caps in? How many years did he coach, if so? Just curious.

Would like too see someone with a lot more pro coaching experience that would recruit from the pro leagues and have many current contacts.JMO but wouldn't be my choice.

I'm still saying we are better off with Kromm as a head coach.

From what I hear it's Tab Lardner's job if he wants to retire. Adding fuel to the fire Tab and Kinney are very tight.

If he's willing to give up coaching the 3 hockey teams he coaches, then it's possible.

I'm liking all the talk with Blum. He has a great idea of what we want as fans and maybe could bring us back atleast somewhat close to the border cat days. However just as I said I feared would he be in over his head running a team. Also I'm not sure if he would be the GM as well, I would kind of hope not in a way because that could really put him in over his head. Its easier said then done to go out and bring these guys in that are going to fight and bring "old school" hockey back. I mean I could sit here and say I want to be the next coach of the Icehawks because I will bring in a strong defense and a hard checking team. But guess what I can't do that because I have no contacts or any idea whats going on with the business aspect of the IHL. Plus I'm sure recruiting won't be easy for the coaches once again in the IHL seeing how unstable it is so that really won't help a first year coach.
