Detroit area? How about across th bridge in Ontario? There's a ton of kids playing in Junior A, B leagues near here. (Or is just U.S kids aloud to play in the NAHL?) Very few Canadians play in the NAHL, i think theres more Europeans than Canadians to be honest.

good for port huron but i wont watch the nahl crap and thats what it is is crap Ok so watching younger players who have to bust their butts to play each game is crap?? Remember they can only dress 20 for games, but they carry 27. You are going to see competition. None of this garbage you saw in the IHL where the team plays phenomenal one night, then play like mini mites the next night. These kids have something to work for. They aren't just finishing out their final days in hockey.

Its defiantly not the OHL or the USHL but its going to be good hockey and the one thing you are going to get out of these kids is effort night after night and thats all we can ask for

None of this garbage you saw in the IHL where the team plays phenomenal one night, then play like mini mites the next night. These kids have something to work for. They aren't just finishing out their final days in hockey. Had to join to reply to this post, what are these kids working for that is so different? I know quite a few of the players who were DRAFTED by the Michigan Warriors and I know they don't plan on having ANY future whatsoever in hockey, a lot of players in this league are trustfund kids who are going to go into the family business after college. Some kids are using juniors just to get a scholarship for school where they won't even be playing hockey at the school. You talk about these names who have come out of the NAHL and such...I'd be simply amazed if even 1 player from the 10-11 Port Huron team makes the NHL...I'd also be simply amazed if 3 get a chance on a legit CCHA team. Your comparing a bunch of high school kids with there entire futures ahead of them to do whatever they want...most of these kids will play out there NAHL careers and never be heard from again...not to ramble, your comparing them to grown men who basically have spent there entire life fighting to play pro hockey. Easily more then half of the IHL players last year were Canadian players who didn't even attend college, they threw any chance at big school away by going the major-junior route in Canada, they are basically playing for there lives and families, some of them are playing just to play the game they love, some are playing to still get noticed since they didn't get a entry-level contract out of juniors or college. You bash on the IHL players but I'd love to see a list of players you think "are just finishing out their final days in hockey. " If your talking about the likes of Bouchard and Robinson...hell I would watch them play any night over any junior player including number 1 prospects. They play out of passion and if you want to call that boring hockey all you want but it has been made pretty clear that pro hockey even the ECHL or IHL outsells junior hockey. Clearly more people like to watch that "garbage" from a bunch of "guys finishing out their final days" then watch a bunch of egotistical kids who just want make there parents proud. Please don't take offense to my post I don't mean it to come off like that, just simply saying your selling the IHL and the men of the sport very short by saying stuff like that. Given the choice between the two leagues I would pick the IHL any day of the week and it is clear that every other pro hockey city feels the same about that.

You make that nice long post which you bring up some valid points. But to simply respond to your post chris, Port Huron obviously did not support IHL hockey seeing as how Kinney lost 3 MILLION dollars in 3 years. We weren't even close in making the owner atleast come close to breaking even. I don't care about other pro hockey cities this city cannot support and IHL and now that the IHL is pretty much defunct and it is the CHL we would be losing millions in just a year!!! Port Huron's last shot at any hockey in McMorran Arena is the NAHL. So lets stop our b!tching about the NAHL being a bunch of stupid kids. I'm sure we really won't see to much of a difference in the talent level of IHL and NAHL and most defiantly the average fans and kids will not notice a difference besides the kids have to wear largers buckets and thats really all that matters at the end of the day is bringing the average fan into the seat and if we somehow average 1,500 or around that I bet these owners will break even. Even our low 900 could break it somewhat even.

Not trying to bash the NAHL at all and I'm actually happy to have the NAHL move into town over something like the AAHL or a even lower tier junior league like the CSHL. The quality of hockey will be great and there is nothing wrong with this. I'm just simply saying computerjunkie was being a little biased with his post. There are just as many flaws in the NAHL players as there was with the IHL players. Also on the subject of course the NAHL will last in Port Huron, junior teams are easy to keep because they don't pay the players, they actually get paid by there players when they make the team they usually have to pay 5 grand. They also have about 100 players try-out who pay 3-5 hundred. They bank on that and that alone could team the team in green for half a season, then on top of that they get the money from the ticket sales to help keep them even greener. I'm happy the NAHL and it is definitely the best league for a city like Port Huron or Flint at this point. The fans aren't coming so paying players to play is worthless and that is why teams lose money, it wasn't the players or the league who made the fans stop coming. It's the game that made them stop coming, it has been destroyed and it isn't that entertaining anymore all around the board from the NHL to the SPHL. again I feel like I'm rambling but the point of my first post was just that computerjunkie really didn't need to bash the IHL players and say they are playing just for money. That is wrong for almost every IHL player and it's pretty disrespectful thing to say when these guys shed blood busting there humps for the fans.

I watched about 4 years of Wayne state college hockey when they played at Fraser then moved to Plymouth. Most all those guys on those teams never ever made it anywhere besides David Guerra Billy Collins and Mark Nebus but it was still some of the best hockey memories I got it was a great time. I'm very excited about the NAHL even if these kids don't have a chance to make it in hockey.

To Chris, I've seen my fair share of IHL hockey and I ultimately was not impressed by many of the players who were supposed to be great. I've seen some great players start out only to fizzle out by the end of the season. I've seen teams play with passion on one night, then play like they didn't give a rats a$$ the next night. I'm sure in the NAHL, you will have some players who are just playing to play, but the majority of them do have something to shoot for. You also mention players are playing to earn a scholarship to a school in which they don't intend to play sports for when they get there. Well unless you are not familiar with most schools, when they give you a scholarship for their school, it's usually because they expect you to play for them. They don't just hand out free money based on their skills and not expect them to play. As far as players like Robinson and Bourchard, yes they are very skilled players, but the fact is, professional hockey is starting to be more dominant with younger players. Sure you still have your older Vets, but most teams are looking at the younger rookies for their futures. Players like Ryan Miller, who played in the NAHL, Jack Campbell who was recently drafted, many expect him to make his debut this upcoming season. Also 2 local players were drafted by NHL teams recently, both having played in the NAHL. So there are chances for local players to make it up. It's up to them how far their talents will take them. So I'm not looking at this in a biased sense, I'm coming from my observations and research on the leagues. The NAHL has an exstensive list of players who represent them in the NHL, rookies and Vets. Most players who make it to the big time come from the ECHL, which Port Huron would never be able to support because it would cost more to attend a game, plus the operating costs are way more then the IHL. The IHL has a few who make, but generally if you look at the average players profiles, the majority are former big league rs who can't compete at the higher lever but still aren't ready to retire, or just want to keep playing.
