i guess this means we have a finalized roster?
i wonder if we will meet them (in the paper) like they did in the past with the Icehawks...
i can see it now...
(fade into a diner, two guys eating at the counter) WHO are these guys? (ala major league)....

Finalized rosters don't have to be submitted until October 1st this year, this roster we are taking to the tourny will be 7 over the limit of 23 players. And it would likely be a miracle if anything relevant about the team was in the TH tomorrow.

Now these games actually count as wins and losses in the regular season standings right?

Falcons lose 5-2, it appears Russian forward Leonid Kovalev will be replacing Colton Ryz at forward.

3:30 PM ET start time, Season opener in Blaine, MN. All talk for this game can be put in here, go get em guys! I watched the game online. They had some obvious ups and downs but nothing that struck me as something that won't work it self out with some more time. It was pretty hard to see exact numbers at times with the feed I thought so I will keep it general. These observations are based on the team we played today who is also new and may not be a good judge of how the other teams in the league will play. Just from watching online and not being at the rink it is hard to tell how much communicating was going on. From the out side looking in via the web it appeared to me like it wasn't much. The multiple odd man rushes and breakaways especially the 3-0 that led to the 4th goal appeared to be due to lack of communication on the ice. This very likely is due to not really having lines as of yet. I didn't count but I would say Tecci faced at least 3 breakaways that I can recall and took several more shots from odd man rushes into the zone. With the exception of the 4th goal where it looked like no one knew what was happening at the time they turned the puck over the players did seem to make attempts at back checking which looked good. I was relived to see them finally break the goal line in the 3rd. After the second goal they really seem to come alive although with 9 minutes left it just wasn't soon enough. I saw some very good passing at times, that will also improve with time and getting the lines set up. Coulee's goalie had a few very nice saves on a few rebounds early on in the game that kept the momentum in Coulee's favor. If one of those would have gone in the game very well could have been different given the increase in the teams tempo after they scored the second goal. If they can continue where they left off today tomorrow should be a fun game. Last but not least, Tecci... I think over all Tecci played good but not great. Maybe it was nerves, I am not sure but it sure could explain the miss playing the puck resulting in a goal and falling while trying to recover after a save. He takes up a good deal of net and did a decent job of controlling most rebounds. However, when a rebound was given up all hell broke loose LOL. I couldn't tell if he was coming or going, he can go into a very chaotic scramble mode and appears out of control. I will admit that some goalies are very good with that type of style, but I am NOT a fan of it at all so these are just my opinions. He got very lucky when Coulee hit the post on 4 different occasions that I saw and at least 2 of those he was out of position after a desperate scramble. My opinion is that this is going to become an issue at this level where most teams are extremely good at picking up the trash. You watch some of the videos on Youtube of past games and you see rebound goal, after rebound goal, after rebound goal. The defense is going to have to step up big time and clear those out if it continues. These are just a few things that stood out to me, as I already said all of them are things that will improve with time and coaching. I think the out look of this team isn't nearly as bleak as most thought it would be with no draft or tenders to start with. The coaching staff really did a great job of drawing some definite talent to the team and now they just need to work out the kinks as with all new teams. It was a fun game to watch.

Great input ;D Was there a lot of hitting? How well did our big d-men keep up with the faster forwards on Coulee? I think these two things, along with goaltending, will be key to us being competitive this year. For anyone not familiar with the McMorran ice surface, it is15 feet shorter (and I believe 5-7 feet narrower?) than standard ice size. A big, physical team that is able to limit the amount of times quick forwards can burn us is key to playing in this rink. Not having some of these type of players on our pro teams in the past really irked some of our fans and, ultimately, is probably the reason we weren't as successful as we could've been. I compare playing at McMorran to playing baseball at the Metrodome. the Twins had like a .700+ win % in home games the last 10 years before it closed because they did the obvious: took advantage of their home ice field. The Falcons have the potential for the same type of benefit. Here' hoping we actually take advantage of it.

Would be nice if some of the games were on local TV, like how they show the local HS hockey games.

The Falcons have the potential for the same type of benefit. Here' hoping we actually take advantage of it. They were definitely laying some big hits. One thing I did notice which was not to their benefit was they seem to want to hit anything that could not get away fast enough after the 2nd goal was scored by Coulee LOL. It actually took several of them out of position and out of the play which obviously isn't good! When they returned for the 2nd period that slowed down a little and they went back to playing some hockey. When they were not head hunting and actually used their size appropriately to body up and knock people off the puck it was effective. Coulee definitely got the Falcons out of their element with the 2nd goal, the break to resurface helped wrangle the team back in I think. As for the speed of Coulee vs the size of the Falcons...there were several odd man rushes and the D being caught a little flat footed could have contributed some. I saw on a few occasions that some of the D (couldn't see the numbers well) did a decent job of trying to keep control of the body, however, a few of the speedy forwards of Coulee still managed to keep control of the puck and push deep into our zone. I really think that communication is going to be key for the team as they gel. From the goalies out, the goalies could reduce the instances of the D pinching in at the wrong times on a PP leaving a man open for a breakaway when the opposition gets that long pass off which happened at least twice today. Lack of communication also led to all 5 of our guys being down below the top of the circles while both Coulee point skated freely and got a nice bomb off that Tecci had to find through way too much Falcon traffic for a save. When your opposition has time to wind up to his ears, and advertise the bomb he is teeing up you might want to get a man on him! LMAO One other thing I noticed and forgot to mention earlier was timely line changes. I am really not sure if the coaches are calling the shots there or allowing the boys to change as they deem necessary but they need to change more often. Coulee kept fresh feet on the ice almost the entire game and it was to their benefit. I saw a number of Falcons bent over appearing to be sucking wind big time and not changing. I recall mid way through the 3rd one player being totally gassed when the Falcons got a whistle, instead of going off before the face off he stayed on bent over trying to catch his breath. Within about 10-15 seconds of the face off that player ended up taking a penalty trying to keep up with the fresh legs of Coulee in our zone. I don't recall if it led to a goal, but it did lead to an unnecessary penalty. The game was not really that close, and with 30 players in Blaine I don't think they have "go to" guys yet to need to keep them out on the ice longer then they should be. All and all it was just little mistakes, and Coulee made good on a few of them taking the momentum and not looking back.

Ryz is still on the roster BTW, looks like he and Kovalev will battle for an import spot.
I notice we didn't dress two of our better skill guys in Zach Lewis and Paul Manderfield yesterday so i would expect they'll be in today, and maybe two of our big guys in Lemirande and Cole.
