i wouldnt say they "went nuts" id say they were a bunch of un-disciplined idiots. except the too many men minors, thats on the coach as far as im concerned...

Hopefully there undisciplined play will get rid of you. if these "school yard punks" keeps this up they are gonna be filling the seats at mcmorran and actually leave people not snoozing through the game like the Icehawks. Like I said they are not a good team and if you say thats hickes fault, you are a fool. He had little to no time to build this team. Atleast he is going to put a team out there that is gonna stir it up and atleast give us fans some entertainment. They should win opening night they are playing a team worse then them. Some fireworks should fly. Please if you wanna come on here and put this team down every time they do something wrong. Save it we all understand this team is really not very good but you no what they are entertaining and thats what sells tickets

Plus it is still early! Holy cow 4 games into a 53 game season and the team has already been written off. Give Hicke a chance to narrow the players down to a team that can actually work within their lines in practice and begin to gel. It is definitely not about all the best players it is about the right players. The team has only been together for 14 days as of today. How can they possibly be comfortable with each other yet? Yes, penalties come when they get caught in mistakes or begin to get frustrated, half the frustration is growing pains. I watched the first game, and the last they looked improved even from a few days ago. They came out flying and had Wanatchee on their heels for the first few minutes. Their goalie made some good saves and we missed some opportunities for rebound goals. The game was not as lop sided as the score might make it appear.

unfortunately thats the mentality of this town and apparently this board. it was hashed out over and over last year. there wasnt enough fighting for it to be enjoyable. i call bs on that. low level, non-meshed quality of play is fine. the hooliganism is what has me concerned...
the statement i made, " except the "too many men" minors, thats on the coach as far as im concerned..." was in reference to the coach being responsible for the number of players on the ice...
considering ive had my season tickets since july, and have been listening to the games on the radio, and been on this forum A LOT already this season, i wouldnt say ive written them off. yeah, i said i cant wait to see them self-destruct. that lack of discipline, and level of frustration, apparently is what passes for 'entertainment'. i know of NO COACH (semipro or amateur, football, baseball, basketball or hockey) who would abide by that. none of my coaches would (or did) put up with it. no one put up with Haun giving DP a two-hander last year, did they? grabbing the facemask to the point of getting a misconduct is just as reprehensible...
174 penalty minutes in 4 games and 4 misconducts last night? you find that enjoyable and entertaining?
lets see how many tickets their style of 'entertainment' sells. if I was coaching a team in the PHMHA, from what ive heard (not watched yet) i dont know if i would want my players to go to the games. i guess you dont ever go to any other hockey league games because they must be pretty boring when theres only a handful or less, in penalties...
i still cant fathom how needless penalties is entertaining. i certainly hope that the barn is sold out every night. i hope that as the season goes on were able to fill 2 or 3 tour buses to away games, but we will see...
yeah, chicago and springfield are 'worse' than us. i dont have one issue with whether they are winning or losing. its whether or not they plan on just coming out every night to see who can get ejected...
i understand that this reply got a bit dis-jointed towards the end but i am fully behind the team, poor play or not. i dont see the need or the 'excitement' behind bone-headed penalties...
go Falcons!

With minor league hockey the bottom line is this and its not just Port Huron either. Minor league hockey is suffering due to a poor economy. Its going to take much more then just throwing a hockey team out there and go come see our minor league product. Its not going to work and its proven, did you know theres only 1 minor league pro team left in Michigan? Kalamazoo is it.
Outside the box thinking is the only way to succeed in minor/junior hockey right now. If people wanna go see a good hockey game they are going to save the money and go to a Red Wings game. If they want to go be entertained then a minor league game where theres rough/fighting and good promotions and entertainment could work.

so game misconducts, and an hour or more of penalty minutes are what we can expect this season? thats sad...
why cant people go see good hockey at this level? i read a lot of theads about how these kids will be busting ass to play well because they are in the position of getting scouted whereas the 'old guys' were just lacing on the skates to 'collect a paycheck' they can still play well (or stink) without taking dumb penalties cant they?
well whatever, im still looking forward to opening night...

People have very few entertainment dollars to spend right now and when they have it they are going to spend it else where other then minor league hockey unless there is some incentive for them to come to the game, there in lies the trick to get these people to take there entertainment dollars and spend it on the team. Think of it this way, when Rory Smith played here 2 years ago he was a fan favorite and hadn't even stepped on the ice yet. He played a total of 4 games here and was probably already the most popular icehawk in the teams history. Other examples back to the Border Cats days.. who were fan favorites Jason Simon, Jason Reynard, Christian Scourlietous (sp), Saylor. People remember the Cats by their toughness. If minor league teams keep throwing teams out there and telling fans hey come see our team win then minor league hockey will continue to fall. Just watch if the Fighting Falcons atleast put up a .500 record this year but continue this rough dirty style of play they will be putting enough butts in McMorrans seats to keep the team even or possibly making money.
