It is time to mix things up. There needs to be a coaching change made immediately. This organization is dying at a rapid rate. It needs new blood. Operate before it becomes to late and dies. Ernie and Shane, please put your egos aside and give Jeff Blum a chance.

SBK HOCKEY/NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK Tim Opie - Traverse City North Stars
HONORABLE MENTION: Motor City forward Steve Brancheau; Port Huron forward Jackson Bray; St. Louis forward Chris Ciotti
So, how do you reward our North Division honoree....TRADE HIM!!! Another great move by the Hicke's. Keep the moron twins (14 and 20) and momma's boy (13) and all the other idiots that look like monkey's humping a football, and trade away one of the few guys with experience in the league and any hockey sense on this team. I've tried to remain positive and give the coaches the benefit of the doubt with their late start, etc, but moves like these show how little they know about what they're doing. I'm done with this team - time to drive to Flint or Trenton on Fri and Sat nights and watch the good Michigan teams in this league.

mrporthuron: nice coherent sentence, you stupid hick!!! I'd argue with you, but honestly have no idea what you're trying to say.
Haven't been to a game in a month - try to give my season tickets away, but there've been no takers... Saw the box scores from the weekend, and looks like things are back to normal after a win and OTL last weekend - REALITY HAS SET IN ONCE AGAIN: 1) coaches have no idea how to run a team or coach during a game - and have lost control 2) the morons, from captain green on down still have no clue how to play at this level - great job with all the stupid penalites Friday 3) the new kid from Chicago has shot his wad and is showing why the hitmen couldn't get him out of town quick enough
I feel bad for the handful of kids that truly deserve to play in this league and are going to waste a year under the geniuses running the Falcons.

in the falcons defense (not much of one, but defense none the less) the officiating on friday and saturday was ABYSSMAL. im not saying they didnt deserve most of their penalties but where was the whistle when Michigan was tackling our forwards? where was the whistle when Michigan was cross-checking? seriously? Michigan was SO DISCIPLINED that they only allowed TWO powerplays over TWO games?
the roughing call near the end of last nights game was a bone the officials threw the home crowd because they feared a riot i think...
but overall, youre right about this team. we are going nowhere fast...

It seems when new kids come... they do well become competitive, and then I guess the coaching staff get a hold of them... They couldn't even figure out break outs in one of the games.
Maybe they just need to run four lines, let them find the right line mates and know they can play. rotate folks to sit out and treat every team player the same and see what the team can do without coach interference.
Something is going wrong with motivation..... The players are good enough to compete. Just need a simple framework and let them go at it hard. In practice and in the game.

May be the coaches needs a consultant... focus on skill development and knowledge of the game so each player can get to the next level... maybe the wins will begin to take care of themselves.

First of all, bad, undiciplined teams are always complainging about the refs' calls. I don't go watch anymore, so can't comment on any specifics penalties, but the refs have nothing to do with the 2 unsportsmanlike calls our captain got. A fish stinks from the head down - the Hicke's have not enforced dicipline all season, and when the guy wearing the "C" (and the idiot wearing the "A") keep getting those types of penalties, you have to wonder what the coaches are teaching??? Too far into the season to still be doing that crap.
Long and short of it is, Hickes have some favorites (94, 14, 20) and political picks (13, 19) that can't play at this level and the coaches' egos won't let them admit that and put those guys on the bench and play the guys who might actually give them a chance to win (17, 91, 9, 10) - give those guys more shifts and pair them up and let them gel. The new guy from Chicago has a ton of talent, but he's a puck hog and will never pass up a shot. If he was a good teammate and someone to build a team around, Chicago would have kept him - I think this will turn out to be a bad trade - Bray may not have been flashy or scored 4 goal a night, but he made the guys around him better and was solid at both ends and a good teammate - once the Hicke's stopped screwing around with lineups and gave him ice time, he was the hottest player on the team...right up until the time they traded him. Other guys they cut that were better than the knuckle-heads they've kept. Just one bad decision after another by these two...
39 games left - going to be a long, cold winter in Pt. Huron.

Falcons Watcher you must be a dad whos kid is not getting playing time. You have no idea to judge talent. Lets set the record straight - there is not going to be any coaching changes the Hicke's have part ownership and thats that!!!
Talent- One politice pick #13 mom is the owner.
The only players that can play even from the college scouts mouths and opposing coaches are 4-9-11-18-19-94. Those are you players who can play at this level.
10-16-17-91 are going to be good next year need time to develop and understand this game at this level.
5,14,15,20,21,24,27 are all not ready for this level and hurt the team everytime they step on the ice.
Goalies find 2 new ones these 2 can not play.
falcons watcher daddy of a player obviously your kid doesnt belong.

1) I know there won't be a coaching change - just pointing out how bad these two guys are 2) I DO NOT have a kid on the team - just another guy who got suckered into thinking this might be good hockey, and bought tickets.
As far as the players you think can play: 4 - not consistent, but has ability, and could be very good with more time 9 - lots of hustle - good, not great skill, but makes up for that with his hard work - heard he's a great kid too - one of the few nice pick ups the Hicke's have made 11 - big tough kid - raw talent, could be very good - plays with an edge, but seems to keep his head (unlike some of the other dopes here) - heard his father played pro, so has the pedigre 18 - lots of talent - needs to work on including others and not always be looking for a goal - also needs to play defense - hopefully getting shipped out of Chicago woke him up and he will learn to be a better teammate 19 - what a joke - this IS a political pick - the old man bought him a team in Albert Lea, and don't think there wasn't some behind the scenes crap going on here too. He's average at best - in his last year of eligibility, and if there wasn't politics involved, he'd have been gone a long time ago. 94 - biggest puzzle on this team - could be GREAT, but is too up and down. NHL size, strength and shot, but still makes dumb mistakes and takes BAD penalties - put his big body to work the right way and he's a legit DI player, but Hicke's are trying to make him things he's not.
I'll agree with you on the four you say need time, but I think 10's already one of our best players. I also agree @ goalies, but the kid from Ptitsburgh is here to stay (more politics?).
I'm not blaiming the kids - they're all chasing a dream, and doing the best they can - just bad decisions by coaches from tryouts on through. They got a late start, so deserved some slack, but now that they can see who can and can't play, time to set game roster accordingly.
Just my observations as an old guy who's been around, from what I've seen on the ice

See, I do blame the coaching. I have been to all but one of the home games and to several practices. Screaming obscenities, being late for team meetings, going out of town for a week before your first game, and not having structured practices is not good coaching. These coaches have not taught these players anything as far as systems. All they do is mother-f*** these kids at practice and at games. Sooner or later they are going to tune them out and that has happened sooner than later. If there isn't a change soon, this organization will not be back next year.

I don't get where people believe Ernie Hicke tried to make Green into something he isn't, Green always played with an edge, but i think just getting in an actual fight would do him better. He had 11 fights in 2 seasons over in the BCHL/NDJHL but hasn't gotten in any this season. I think just using his frustration in the form of a fight rather than taking a minor and a misconduct could do some good. I love the fact that he uses his body size and throws his weight around, in pro if he makes it there he's going to be asked to do so, he just needs to use his frustration to his advantage.
Soderlund is definently a good acquisition, he's ready for this level, i think with a bit of seasoning Cook could be a good find as well, but the question remains can this coaching staff bring them along? I think most of us would say no at this point.
Another guy i think can make it here is Kovalev, plays with an edge, decent at both ends of the ice. He is younger than most of our defense though, so he has time to improve.

When I say Hicke's are trying to make Green something he's not, I'm referring to him playing center, carrying the puck, playing the point on the PP. He's not that type of player - he's not the set-up guy. Use his strengths - put him in front of the net and make somebody try to move him. Set him up in the slot. Have one of the small, skilled guys feed him the puck for one-timers and tips. I've seen him turn the puck over too many times while trying to stick-handle - not his strong suit - put him in a position to do what he's good at. Look at the Redwings - put guys like Franzen and Holmstrom in front of the net and let Datzuk do all the skating and set up - they've been living off this model for years. Look at what the Blackhawks did with Byfuglien last year.
I think Green's dumb penalties come from frustration, not because he's a jag-off - let him do his thing and he'll get better and so will the team. He could be something special if used the right way. He needs to be coached and I'm not sure he's getting that here.
